First-Rate Resources for Second Language Learners

Date: Wednesday, January 20, 2010 St. Petersburg College
Time: 2:00pm ET / 11:00am PT
Speaker: Li-Lee Tunceren - Associate Professor at St. Petersburg College, Florida

English as a Second Language (ESL) programs in colleges across the country are diverse and ever-evolving. The past decade has seen a surge in ESL course offerings in blended and online environments, where learning to read, write, understand and speak English involves navigating learning management systems, Web 2.0 technologies, and 3rd party software. This modality can be stimulating yet overwhelming to non-native speakers learning English for academic purposes; colleges must provide online resources and instructional support to help these students develop into digitally literate, critical language learners. This webinar will discuss some of the unique needs of ESL students today and the resources and strategies implemented at St. Petersburg College (FL) to promote the success and retention of this important population.
