1. How do I know that SMARTHINKING received my application?

2. When should I expect to hear from you regarding my application?
SMARTHINKING hires on a regular basis, but the peak season for hiring is May-August and November-December every year. Due to the high volume of applicants, it may take a number of weeks before we contact those individuals who pass our initial screening.

6. What software do tutors need?
No special software is required, all tutoring takes place through our website. Although tutors must have compatible browsers-see item #5 (above) for specifics.

7. Does SMARTHINKING hire tutors outside of the U.S.?
Yes, all that is needed is a reliable Internet access and a U.S. based bank account.

8. How much time do I need to commit to this position?
We prefer that tutors commit to a minimum of 9 hours per week.

9. How are tutors scheduled?
Tutors work a fixed weekly schedule that is set at the beginning of each academic term. Daily shifts typically range from 2 - 4 hours in length. Moreover, we typically offer additional reserve or substitute hours on a weekly basis.

10. Are tutors paid according to student usage?
Most, tutors are paid an hourly wage irrespective of student usage.

11. When/how are tutors paid?
Tutors are paid on the 15th and 30th of each month. We prefer tutors take advantage of our direct deposit payment options. Please note: because tutors are classified as part-time employees, appropriate state and local taxes are withheld.

12. Is training required to become an tutor?
All tutors must successfully complete E-structor® Certification -- an online, discipline specific training program. The training programs are 10-15 hours in length. They consist of self-paced and guided online modules which are facilitated through our website.
