Duquesne University Offers Live, On-Demand Academic Assistance to School of Leadership and Professional Advancement Students
Washington, DC and Pittsburgh, PA (July 12, 2005) – Duquesne University’s School of Leadership and Professional Advancement announced today that it has partnered with SMARTHINKING, the leading provider of online tutoring and academic support, to offer its students live tutoring anytime, from anywhere. Students in Duquesne University’s School of Leadership and Professional Advancement will receive real-time academic assistance from SMARTHINKING tutors in math, biology, economics, accounting, and statistics. Duquesne will also provide writing support for all subjects through SMARTHINKING’s online writing lab.
By offering online tutoring through SMARTHINKING, Duquesne University is making convenient and easy-to-use academic assistance available to adult students despite the time of day or their location. The service is particularly useful to students who attend classes on campus on Saturdays or entirely online, which makes using traditional face-to-face tutoring or on-campus resources virtually impossible.
According to Dr. Benjamin Hodes, Dean of the School of Leadership and Professional Advancement, "our adult students juggle family, work and other responsibilities while earning a degree. They often do their coursework late at night, while traveling for business and other unusual times. With online students from Hawaii to Florida and Iceland to Iraq, assistance needs to be available to them when they need it, regardless of time zone. A high-quality 24/7 resource makes perfect sense."
"We’re pleased to partner with Duquesne to offer students access to SMARTHINKING’s on-demand, on-line tutoring," said SMARTHINKING CEO Burck Smith. "Our tutors provide real-time assistance to everyone from traditional students to commuters and distance learners. We look forward to working with Duquesne’s students to improve learning and performance."
More than 80% of SMARTHINKING tutors possess advanced degrees in their discipline, and all tutors have substantial instruction and teaching experience. As part of SMARTHINKING’s intensive hiring and training process, tutors participate in rigorous online training and evaluation. Over 115,000 students have had over 500,000 tutoring sessions with SMARTHINKING tutors.
