How do I know that Smarthinking received my tutor application?

Smarthinking hires on a regular basis, but the peak season for hiring is May-August and November-December every year. Due to the high volume of applicants, it may take a number of weeks before we contact those individuals who pass our initial screening.

We prefer that tutors commit to a minimum of 9 hours per week.

Tutors work a fixed weekly schedule that is set at the beginning of each academic term. Daily shifts typically range from 2 - 4 hours in length. Moreover, we typically offer additional reserve or substitute hours on a weekly basis.

Most tutors are paid an hourly wage irrespective of student usage.

Tutors are paid biweekly on our corporate schedule. We prefer tutors take advantage of our direct deposit payment options. Please note: because tutors are classified as part-time employees, appropriate state and local taxes are withheld.

All tutors must successfully complete Smarthinking-Certification -- an online, discipline specific training program. The training programs are 10-15 hours in length. They consist of self-paced and guided online modules which are facilitated through our website.
